Steps taken to Review Indian Cricket

India's shock loss to Bangladesh and the team's subsequent ouster from the 2007 Cricket World Cup at the preliminary stage itself may turn out to be the best thing that has happened to Indian cricket in a long time. The BCCI, which was shell shocked at the team's pathetic performance in the West Indies, was finally forced into taking concrete steps to infuse some fresh life into Indian cricket.
The BCCI in its Working Committee meeting on Saturday announced a slew of steps to rejuvenate Indian cricket; and one can assume to put together a well-oiled unit in place by the time the 2011 World Cup comes along.
The board should be commended for initiating concrete steps to strengthen domestic cricket. In recent years, interest in the domestic league has waned due to a number of reasons, including the absence of national team players and the general nature of pitches laid out for these matches.
In this background, the decision to ensure that all Test/ ODI cricketers play the
Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Challenger Trophy and some Ranji Trophy matches is bound to create fresh interest in these encounters, pull in more crowds, and in the process also encourage domestic cricketers to put in better performances. Playing in front of a sizable crowd would also stimulate match conditions for these players to a certain extent.
It has been a well-known fact for ages now that Team India does well at home on the flat pitches that are laid out here, but struggle when they go to countries like England, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa where the ball swings and the pitches are much faster and bouncier. To address this, the BCCI is going to ask local associations to prepare fast and lively tracks for domestic tournaments. As with the other steps announced, implementation will be the key word here.
One of the best decisions taken by the Working Committee is to scrap the present zonal representation in the senior and junior selection committees. This will ensure that regionalism does not creep in while making selections. The modalities of the working of the new selectors of course need to be worked out, but in itself this is a terrific decision taken by the BCCI.
The decision to do away with the present gradation system and approval of the Performance-based payment is another overdue decision, that I personally am glad has finally been taken. For long now, our seasoned campaigners have been assured of a hefty pay check irrespective of their performance in matches. All that changes now and players representing India in international matches and tournaments will have to earn their pay check.

One year of IT Industry and still going on

I successfully completed one year of my IT Career. It is great to be a part of such an industry. I have previously written a mail about my 6 months of experience. My first 6 months was so very exciting and challenging as i was learning some new things and was getting used to the IT exposure. But the later 6 months are not so interesting. But the later 6 months taught me some important things in life. Never compromise of what you want. If you want some thing try your level best to get it. Let me tell you about the next 6 months.

In my first six months i was undergoing training on product but not technology. Then suddenly all the major role players of our product left the organization as our company was acquired by INFOR. With this i was the only person for the UNIX part of my product. In the later 6 months i was getting issues on product which i was solving with confidence. This was going on for the three to four months. But for the past two months there were no issues. But with the last issue i solved there was a very little mistake done by me which will not effect much for the product. But this was escalated to the level of my development manager without my notice.

This issue pissed me off a lot. I did not like that. When i have done all the issues correctly there was not even a mail to say "Good work". But with a small mistake it was escalated to such a high level by the US ppl.

Then for the past two months there were no issues in UNIX. I was just sitting in the company. For one or two weeks i was just sitting and listening to songs. Then i realised that i need to work a lot on my career. I started reading JAVA and related technology. I started to prove myself as a valuable assest for the organization. There was a WEB CLIENT issue in one of the product. One of them approached me for the solution. I took it as an oppurtunity and then started to work on that and solved it. This proved to my manager that i am good in WEB Technologies and Java.

Meanwhile there was the APPRAISAL program on the plate. This was the only chance for me to express to my manager that i want to work on JAVA. I made it a point in the appraisal meeting.

Then the results were annouced ( that is the hike letter came), I won the battle i was given the WEB CLIENT of our product and also i was given the highest hike percentage of all the freshers joined. This once again proved that dont take what they give, ask what you want.

JOB SATISFACTION IS THE PRIMARY THING. I hope you would like my experiences. Please comment on this.
